Agathe Laisne, Hailee Cooper and Coach Ryan Murphy honored by the Big 12.
Texas Women's Golf has swept the 2019 Big 12 Conference Awards for the second consecutive year, the league office in Irving, Texas, announced Thursday.
Sophomore Agathe Laisne is the 2019 Big 12 Golfer of the Year; freshman Hailee Cooper is a unanimous selection as the 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the Year; and head coach Ryan Murphy is the 2019 Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Texas also became the first team in Big 12 Conference history to place five players on the 10-member All-Big 12 Conference team. The Longhorns' selections to the All-Big 12 team included Cooper, Laisne, freshman Sara Kouskova, junior Emilee Hoffman and sophomore Kaitlyn Papp.
Laisne becomes the sixth person in school history to be named Big 12 Golfer of the Year. She won the 2019 Big 12 Conference individual championship and tied for 10th at the 2019 NCAA Championship, earning WGCA First-Team All-America honors. Laisne played in 30 rounds and was second on the team with a stroke average of 72.30, which ranks fourth on Texas' all-time single-season stroke average list. She had eight top-20 finishes on the season, 15 rounds at par or better and six rounds in the 60s. Laisne made the cut at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur in April 2019 and will represent the International team at the Arnold Palmer Cup in June 2019.
Cooper becomes the Longhorns' third consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Year. She was a 2019 WGCA First-Team All-American and placed fourth at the NCAA Championship. It marked the fourth top-five individual finish at the NCAA Championship in program history and first since 1997. She led her team with a stroke average of 72.28, which ranks third on Texas' all-time single-season stroke average list. Cooper played all 36 rounds for the Longhorns with seven rounds in the 60s and a team-leading 19 rounds at par or better. She had two individual victories on the year and five top-10 efforts. Cooper has been selected to represent the United States team at the Arnold Palmer Cup in June 2019.
Murphy earned his third consecutive Big 12 Coach of the Year honor in 2018-19. He led the Longhorns to their third consecutive Big 12 Conference Championship by a league-record 37 strokes. Texas won five tournaments, which marked just the third time in school history to accomplish that feat. That included the first NCAA Regional victory in program history. The Longhorns tied for fifth at the NCAA Championship, marking the first top-five showing for the program since 2003. Texas was the NCAA stroke-play medalist, placing four golfers in the top-10 individually for the first time in school history. The Longhorns finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final Golfstat rankings.
