The college football world will be focused on Austin, Texas on Saturday.
AUSTIN, Texas – This Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium will be unlike anything seen in the last decade, with ESPN College GameDay broadcasting live from the Lyndon B. Johnson Library Lawn in the morning and a sold-out crowd for the 6:30 p.m. game against LSU on ABC.
Between the GameDay show in the morning and the top-10 matchup in the evening, Texas will host an array of fan events. Starting at 11 a.m., Bevo Blvd., Smokey's Midway and the Nissan Heisman House will open and by 2:30 p.m. the Longhorn City Limits Stage will be open with live music starting at 3:30 p.m.
Rece Davis, the host of GameDay and the play-by-play announcer for Saturday's ABC broadcast, praised the work that has been done to enhance the gameday experience at The University of Texas.
"The things that Texas has done to enhance the entire gameday experience is cutting-edge stuff that people are going to be trying to copy in years to come," Davis said. "It makes the entire experience awesome. But then you have to pay it off by having a tremendous, championship-worthy football team and that's what Texas believes this is."
Kirk Herbstreit, who will share the GameDay stage and the broadcast booth with Davis, also shares the same excitement to be back in Austin.
"I have been coming here (to Austin) for over 20 years. I've always enjoyed my time here," Herbstreit said. "I love the vibe of this city. Every time we find out we are coming down here, I'm always fired up. It's been too long since we've been down here. I'm fired up to be back here in 2019 and hoping we get back again real soon."
On Saturday the entire college football world will be focused on Austin, with the GameDay show in town and one of the season's premier match-ups on ABC. Davis discussed how meaningful it is to have GameDay on campus.
"We are very grateful that we are part of the college football landscape," Davis said. "You can't officially kick off a Saturday until Lee Corso puts on the mascot head, one way or another. We are part of something that people love to belong to and connect with and that's really what separates college football."
