Each Longhorns player registered a goal and an assist during Texas’ 7-0 rout of Kansas State last Friday
AUSTIN, Texas – A dominant Texas offensive showing has led to a pair of Longhorns receiving national accolades as junior midfielder Julia Grosso was named to the 11-member Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, while freshman forward Presley Echols earned another honorable mention selection to the prestigious squad.
This marks the second time in her career that Grosso has been honored as part of Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week, after a previous inclusion back on Aug. 27, 2019, while Echols earned the second honorable mention selection of her brief time on the Forty Acres.
Grosso added her contributions to a Texas offensive explosion at the 58:29 mark by stealing a poor Kansas State back pass and scoring into an open net from nine yards out to extend UT's lead to 3-0. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was later credited with her first assist of the season on a perfect pass ahead to sophomore midfielder/forward Lauryn Oliver who blasted home her first career goal at 69:11 of an eventual 7-0 rout.
Making just her third career start, Echols registered her first career three-point effort by scoring a goal and dishing an assist over 49 minutes of playing time. The Dallas, Texas, product has now scored on two of her three total shots on frame during her brief career. Echols wasted no time getting on the stat sheet in last Friday's match by registering her first career collegiate assist with a key pass on the build-up to Haley Berg's match-winning goal just 2:01 into the contest. In the second half at 73:25, she received a pass up the left wing and somehow snuck a 16-yard shot just inside the right post for her second career goal to extend the lead to 6-0. She threatened to score again at 86:32, but her 15-yard drive from near the top of the box traveled straight to KSU's keeper.
Texas (2-3-0) returns to action on Fri., Oct. 16, by traveling to Ames, Iowa, to battle Iowa State (2-3-0). The match against the Cyclones is set for broadcast via Big 12 Now on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. CT.
