Drew Kibler highlights Saturday’s action with NCAA “A” cut in 200-yard freestyle victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — Junior Drew Kibler won the 200-yard freestyle in a NCAA "A" cut time of 1:31.10 to highlight Saturday's action in The University of Texas Men's Swimming and Diving First Chance Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The First Chance Invitational was a non-scored meet featuring competitors from Texas, SMU and Texas A&M.
The Longhorns posted wins in four of the seven individual events and recorded 12 NCAA "B" cut efforts on Saturday. Junior Daniel Krueger claimed the 100-yard freestyle (42.33), while freshman David Johnston earned the victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle (14:47.75). Senior Alvin Jiang added a win in the 100-yard butterfly (45.75).
Meet Highlights
- Junior Daniel Krueger kicked off Saturday's action with a win in the 100-yard freestyle (42.33), while senior Jake Sannem placed third (43.75). Both Krueger and Sannem posted NCAA "B" cut efforts.
- Sophomore Ethan Harder finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:43.63), recording an NCAA "B" cut.
- Sophomore Caspar Corbeau placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:53.84), earning an NCAA "B" cut.
- The Longhorns swept the top four spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Freshman David Johnston claimed the win (14:47.75), while senior JohnThomas Larson placed second (14:55.25). Junior Alex Zettle took third (15:01.98) and freshman Ethan Heasley finished fourth (15:31.54). Johnston, Larson and Zettle all recorded NCAA "B" cut performances.
- Texas posted the top three times in the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Drew Kibler earned the win in a NCAA "A" cut time of 1:31.10. Freshman Carson Foster placed second (1:33.41), and freshman Coby Carrozza took third (1:35.11). Both Foster and Carrozza registered NCAA "B" cut efforts.
- Senior Alvin Jiang claimed victory in the 100-yard butterfly (45.75), while sophomore Cole Crane placed second (47.43). Both Jiang and Crane recorded NCAA "B" cut performances.
- Sophomore Jake Foster capped off the meet with a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (1:43.37), earning a NCAA "B" cut effort. Junior Andrew Koustik placed third (1:46.92), narrowly missing the "B" cut standard (1:46.77).
The Longhorns return to action on Friday, Oct. 30 with a dual meet against Texas A&M. Start time for the meet will be announced at a later date. Due to health and safety protocols, the Texas-Texas A&M meet will be closed to the public.
