NOTES
• A Familiar Face: Texas head coach Vic Schaefer will see a familiar face in the opposing coaches' box on Tuesday as Lamar head coach Aqua Franklin played for Schaefer when he was an associate head coach at Texas A&M. She also served as a graduate assistant on the Aggie coaching staff in 2009-10 and as an assistant for Schaefer at Mississippi State from 2012-15.
• Against Lamar: Texas leads its all-time series over Lamar, 6-2. The Longhorns are 5-1 against the Cardinals in Austin, having won the last five home meetings dating back to 1995. Tuesday's contest will be the first between the two programs since Texas beat Lamar at the Erwin Center back on Jan. 3, 2009, 82-45.
• That's a LOT of Turnover: Texas' pressure defense continues to make an impression on the national and Big 12 stats. UT forced a season-best 35 turnovers against SMU [Nov. 25] and recently followed that up with 34 more in the 62-52 win at Kansas State [Dec. 21]. As a result, Texas is currently third in NCAA Division I in turnover margin (+10.4 - first Big 12) and fifth in the nation in turnovers forced (24.9 - first Big 12).
• Turning Those Turnovers into Points: Texas is utilizing its defense to create offense as the Longhorns are currently averaging 29.1 points off 24.9 turnovers forced per contest. UT has managed at least 20 points off turnovers in all seven games of 2020-21 with a high of 39 in the season-opening win over SMU [Nov. 25]. Texas managed 38 points off turnovers during last Monday's 62-52 win at Kansas State [Dec. 21].
• Just "Charge" It: The Longhorns defense is making taking charges an art form this season as Texas has drawn 25 total charges through its first seven games. Junior guard/forward Audrey Warren hasn't hesitated to step in front of any opponent, drawing a squad-best 12 of those charges.
• Collier's in Charge: Preseason National Player of the Year candidate Charli Collier keeps putting up the stats, averaging 24.1 points-per-game to rank No. 14 in NCAA Division I and second in the Big 12 Conference. She has five 20+ point efforts in 2020-21 and also rates second in the NCAA in free throws made (52), ninth in double-doubles (four), fifth in total points (169), 26th in total rebounds (69), 12th in FG's made (57) and 48th in rebounding average (9.9). Against North Texas, Collier scored a career-high 44 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, marking the first time a Big 12 player had scored 44 points and grabbed at least 15 boards in a game since at least 1999-2000. For her opening week efforts, she earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors (Nov. 30) for the second time in her career.
