No. 2 Women’s Swimming breaks two more school records on Friday

Bray sets mark in 100-yard butterfly (50.37), while Elendt claims record in 100-yard breaststroke (58.06).
AUSTIN, Texas — Two more school records were broken on Friday by the No. 2 University of Texas Women's Swimming team during the third night of the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Freshman Olivia Bray set a new mark in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.37, while freshman Anna Elendt established a record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.06.
In the morning prelims session, Bray swam a 50.67 to break a 12-year-old record in the 100-yard butterfly of 51.40 set by Kathleen Hersey on Dec. 4, 2008. Bray returned to the pool for Friday's finals and lowered the mark by another three-tenths of a second. Elendt followed with her effort in the 100-yard breaststroke, topping the previous record of 58.32 set by Laura Sogar on Nov. 30, 2012.
Current Texas swimmers won five of the six events during Friday night's finals session. In addition to the victories and school-record performances from Bray and Elendt, sophomore Kelly Pash claimed the win in the 400-yard individual medley (4:06.16) and ranks No. 4 on the UT top performers list.
Sophomore Kyla Leibel placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.59), just behind former Longhorn Remedy Rule (1:44.86). Junior Julia Cook claimed the victory in the 100-yard backstroke (51.14) and ranks No. 4 on the UT top performers list. The Texas 'A' quartet of freshman Grace Cooper, Bray, Cook and Pash won the 200-yard freestyle in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:29.01.
Meet Highlights
- Sophomore Kelly Pash opened Friday's finals session with an impressive victory in the 400-yard individual medley, posting a NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:06.16. Her time marked a personal best (previous: 4:07.71) and ranks No. 4 on the UT top performers list. Senior Evie Pfeifer placed second with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:11.53.
- After setting a school record in the 100-yard butterfly (50.67) in the morning prelims, freshman Olivia Bray broke the mark for the second time on Friday with a NCAA 'A' cut time of 50.37 in the finals. Freshman Emma Sticklen finished second in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 51.49 and now ranks No. 3 on the UT top performers list, just off the previous school record of 51.40 set by Kathleen Hersey on Dec. 4, 2008. Freshman Grace Cooper placed third with a personal-best time of 53.90.
- Sophomore Kyla Leibel placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a NCAA 'B' and personal-best time of 1:45.59. Former Longhorn Remedy Rule won the event in a time of 1:44.86, while sophomore Mary Smutny took third (1:48.59).
- Freshman Anna Elendt set a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA 'A' cut time of 58.06. That mark topped the previous best of 58.32 set by Laura Sogar on Nov. 30, 2012. Junior Holly Jansen took second (1:01.88), and senior Ellie McLeod finished third (1:03.61).
- Junior Julia Cook won the 100-yard backstroke in a NCAA 'B' cut and personal-best time of 51.14 and now ranks No. 4 on the UT top performers list. Bray placed second in the finals (51.41), but her time of 51.04 in the morning prelims ranks No. 3 on the UT top performers list. Freshman Sydney Silver finished third in the finals (54.34).
- The Longhorns concluded the night with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The 'A' quartet of freshman Grace Cooper, Bray, Cook and Pash won the event in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:29.01.
The Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational concludes on Saturday, Dec. 5 with prelims at 10 a.m. CT and finals at 6 p.m. CT. Due to health and safety protocols, the meet is closed to the public.
