No. 2 Women’s Swimming posts pair of NCAA-best times this year on Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas — A night after setting a pair of school records, the No. 2 University of Texas Women's Swimming's freshman duo of Olivia Bray and Anna Elendt were at it again on Saturday evening during the final night of the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Bray posted the fastest time in the nation this year in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.85), and Elendt registered the fastest time in the country this season in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.04).
In Saturday's 200-yard butterfly, the Longhorns produced an impressive one-two-three finish. Bray's winning effort ranks No. 2 on UT's top performers list. Sophomore Kelly Pash finished second in 1:53.18, which ranks as the second-fastest time in the country this year (behind Bray) and No. 3 on UT's top performers list. Freshman Emma Sticklen placed third in 1:54.43, which ranks as the eighth-fastest time in the nation this season and No. 6 on UT's top performers list.
Elendt's winning time in the 200-yard breaststroke ranks No. 3 on UT's top performers list.
Texas swept all six events on Saturday night to close out the four-day Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational. Sophomore Mary Smutny claimed the win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:40.89), and junior Julia Cook won the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.40). Sophomore Kyla Leibel earned the victory in the 100-yard freestyle (49.27), and the Texas 'B' team won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.36).
Meet Highlights
- Sophomore Mary Smutny opened Saturday's finals session with a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:40.89).
- Junior Julia Cook claimed the victory in the 200-yard backstroke in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:52.40. Freshman Sydney Silver placed second (1:58.00).
- Sophomore Kyla Leibel won the 100-yard freestyle (49.27), while sophomore Bridget Semenuk finished second (49.51) and freshman Grace Cooper took third (49.97). Both Leibel and Semenuk registered NCAA 'B' cut efforts.
- Freshman Anna Elendt earned the win in the 200-yard breaststroke in a NCAA 'A' cut time of 2:06.04. Her mark is the fastest time in the country this season and she now ranks No. 3 on UT's top performers list. Junior Holly Jansen finished second (2:15.40).
- The Longhorns produced an impressive 1-2-3 performance in the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Olivia Bray won the event in a time of 1:52.85 and ranks No. 2 on UT's top performers list. Sophomore Kelly Pash finished second in a time of 1:53.18 and ranks No. 3 on UT's top performers list. Both Bray and Pash registered NCAA 'A' cut times. Freshman Emma Sticklen placed third in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:54.43 and ranks No. 6 on UT's top performance list. Bray and Pash now hold the top two times in the country this season, and Sticklen holds the eighth-fastest time in the nation this year.
- The Texas 'B' team of Pash, Leibel, Semenuk and Cooper claimed victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a NCAA 'B' cut time of 3:15.36. Pash's leadoff 100-yard leg time of 48.29 ranks No. 10 on UT's top performers list.
