The Longhorns honor four senior student-athletes in final home dual meet of the year.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Swimming and Diving team posted a 188-104 victory against SMU on Friday afternoon at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The Longhorns (2-0) won all 16 events during the dual meet.
Prior to the meet, Texas recognized four student-athletes as part of 'Senior Day' ceremonies. The senior class of Evie Pfeifer, Emily Reese, Grace Ritch and Ella Tierney have guided Texas to a pair of top-six finishes at the NCAA Championships and three-straight Big 12 Conference titles.
Freshman Anna Elendt claimed victories in 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke, while sophomore Miranda Heckman earned wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Junior Paola Pineda swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Three Texas seniors captured individual victories on the afternoon, including Evie Pfeifer (1,000-yard freestyle), Ella Tierney (500-yard freestyle) and Emily Reese (100-yard butterfly). Junior Julia Cook (100-yard backstroke), freshman Emma Sticklen (200-yard butterfly), sophomore Bridget Semenuk (50-yard freestyle), sophomore Kyla Leibel (100-yard freestyle) and sophomore Kelly Pash (200-yard individual medley) added individual wins. The Longhorns also swept the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay events.
- The Longhorns opened the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The Texas 'A' team of junior Julia Cook, freshman Anna Elendt, freshman Olivia Bray and freshman Grace Cooper claimed the win in a time of 1:39.22.
- Evie Pfeifer earned the victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:52.64.
- Sophomore Miranda Heckman captured the 200-yard freestyle win in a time of 1:50.01.
- Texas swept the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke. Julia Cook earned the victory in a time of 53.26 and was followed by sophomore Kelly Pash (53.84) and freshman Sydney Silver (56.66).
- Anna Elendt claimed the win in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.56, while junior Holly Jansen took second (1:04.25).
- Freshman Emma Sticklen earned the victory in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:58.32.
- Texas posted four of the top five times in the 50-yard freestyle. Sophomore Bridget Semenuk claimed the win in a time of 22.65 and was followed by sophomore Kyla Leibel (third, 23.59), Emily Reese (fourth, 23.76) and Julia Cook (23.78).
- Junior Paola Pineda won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 358.28, while freshman Bridget O'Neil took second (319.05).
- Kyla Leibel won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.85. Grace Cooper placed third (51.22), and Olivia Bray took fourth (51.30).
- Miranda Heckman claimed the win in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:03.50, and Sydney Silver placed second (2:03.61).
- Anna Elendt posted a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:12.94, while Evie Pfeifer took second (2:17.46).
- Senior Ella Tierney claimed the win in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.83.
- Senior Emily Reese registered a victory in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 54.87, and Grace Cooper placed second (55.57).
- Paola Pineda won the title in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 392.33, while Bridget O'Neil took second (340.65).
- Texas recorded the two fastest times in the 200-yard individual medley. Kelly Pash touched the wall in a time of 1:59.44, and Evie Pfeifer registered a time of 2:00.93.
- The quartet of Julia Cook, Grace Cooper, Bridget Semenuk and Kyla Leibel swam the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.74).
The Longhorns return to action on Feb. 19-21 (Friday-Sunday) at the Big 12 Conference Diving Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center. UT will also serve as the host for the Big 12 Conference Swimming Championships on Feb. 24-27 (Wednesday-Saturday).
