No. 3 Women’s Tennis edged by No. 12 Stanford, 4-3

Bianca Turati, Anna Turati and Fernanda Labraña all post straight-set singles wins against ranked opponents.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — The No. 3 University of Texas women's tennis team fell 4-3 against No. 12 Stanford (8-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns dropped to 8-2 in dual-match action on the year.
The Cardinal took an early 1-0 advantage after claiming a hard-fought doubles point. Freshman Adri Nagy and sophomore Tijana Spasojevic improved to 4-1 this spring in dual-match doubles by earning an impressive 6-3 victory against the No. 36-ranked pair of Sara Choy and Emma Higuchi on court 3. Stanford's No. 37-ranked duo of Emily Arbuthnott and Angelica Blake answered with a 6-3 win against senior twin sisters and No. 20-ranked Anna Turati and Bianca Turati on court 1.
Stanford's tandem of Michaela Gordon and Niluka Madurawe clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory against sophomore Marta Perez Mur and junior Fernanda Labraña on court 2. Gordon and Madurawe led 5-3 before Perez Mur and Labraña held serve and then broke on a deuce point to even the match at 5-5. Gordon and Madurawe answered with a service break on a deuce point in the following game and then held serve to close out the 7-5 win.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Sara Choy claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court 5 against Spasojevic to give the Cardinal a 2-0 advantage. No. 26 Bianca Turati earned the first point for the Longhorns with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win on court 1 over No. 9 Michaela Gordon. Turati improved to 8-0 at the No. 1 singles line this spring with her fourth win against a nationally-ranked opponent.
No. 111 Angelica Blake claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court 3 against Nagy. The Cardinal then clinched the dual-match win when Emma Higuchi closed out a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court 6 over Perez Mur.
Playing all six singles matches to completion, No. 3 Anna Turati moved to 9-0 in dual-match singles play this spring and 20-3 overall with a 6-2, 6-2 win against No. 66 Emily Arbuthnott on court 2. Labraña improved to 8-1 in dual-match singles action and 16-4 overall, closing out the contest with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court 4 over No. 115 Janice Shin.
UT returns to action when it travels to face No. 15 Pepperdine on Friday, Feb. 28. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Central/Noon Pacific at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
