No. 6 Women’s Tennis defeats No. 48 Iowa State, 6-1

The Longhorns improve to 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team posted a 6-1 win against No. 48 Iowa State (9-5, 1-2 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns improved to 11-3 (2-0 Big 12) in dual-match action on the year.
Texas claimed a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. The No. 80-ranked duo of freshman Adri Nagy and sophomore Tijana Spasojevic registered a 6-2 victory on court 3 against Chie Kezuka and Margarita Timakova. Nagy and Spasojevic, who improved to 6-1 in dual-match doubles play this spring, rallied from down 1-2 to win five-consecutive games.
The No. 29-ranked duo of senior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court 1 over Maty Cancini and Ting-Pei Chang. The Turati sisters moved to 7-3 in dual-match doubles action this year.
Redshirt sophomore Marta Perez Mur got off the singles courts first with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court 6 against Timakova. Nagy followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court 4 over Chang to extend the Texas lead to 3-0. Tied at 3-3 in the first set, Nagy won nine of the next 11 games en route to her straight-set victory.
No. 4-ranked Anna Turati clinched the dual-match victory for the Longhorns with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win against No. 119 Thasaporn Naklo on court 2. Turati improved to 11-1 at No. 2 singles in dual-match play this spring. Playing all singles matches to completion, No. 14 Bianca Turati earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Cancini on court 1. Turati moved to 11-1 at No. 1 singles in dual-match action this year.
The remaining two singles matches went to third-set super tiebreakers just as gusty winds invaded the Texas Tennis Center. Junior Fernanda Labraña rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) win on court 3 over Christin Hsieh. Trailing 1-3 in the second set, Labraña won the next two games to pull even. Tied at 5-5 later in the set, she won the next two games to claim the second set and force a third-set tiebreaker.
Hsieh held a 4-3 lead in the super-breaker (first to 10 points), but Labraña won four-straight points to grab a 7-4 advantage. Hsieh won the following point to pull within 7-5, but Labraña claimed the next three points to close out the victory. Labraña improved to 10-2 in dual-match singles play and 18-5 overall this year.
In the final match of the day, Kezuka rallied for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) win against Spasojevic on court 5.
UT returns to action when it plays Yale in a neutral-site match on Saturday, March 14. First serve is set for 3 p.m. CT at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Longhorns also will face UCF on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. CT to complete their weekend trip to the Sunshine State.
