The fourth-year OL collected first-team recognition from the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Football junior OL Samuel Cosmi was named a first-team Walter Camp Preseason All-American, the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF) announced Thursday. The last Longhorn OL to be recognized as a preseason All-American by the WCFF was Connor Williams in 2017.
Cosmi, a native of Humble, Texas, started all 13 games at left tackle a season ago. He anchored an offensive line that was named to the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll. Cosmi was the blindside protector for QB Sam Ehlinger, who accounted for 4,326 yards of total offense (No. 2 in school history) and 39 total touchdowns (No. 3). He also helped Ehlinger, and RBs Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson rush for more than 600 yards, making Texas the only Big 12 program to field three 600-yard rushers last season. In the Valero Alamo Bowl vs. No. 11 Utah, Cosmi was influential in the Longhorns rushing for 231 yards on 37 attempts, a 6.2 yards-per-carry average. Entering the Alamo Bowl, Utah fielded the nation's top-ranked rushing defense, previously allowing only 2.7 yards per carry. Texas was one of only two teams to rush for more than 115 yards against the Utes last season.
Cosmi earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was honorable mention for the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year last season. He was also a first-team selection on Pro Football Focus' Big 12 Team of the Year. He earned All-Bowl recognition from the Associated Press, ESPN and Sports Illustrated for his performance in the Alamo Bowl.
Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football," first named an All-America team in 1889. The 2020 season will be the 131st edition of the team. The 2020 All-America teams will be announced in late November, will be selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision schools, and will be certified by Marcum's New Haven-based accounting firm.
