Cross Country places 16 on Academic All-Big 12 First Team

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas cross country program saw 16 student-athletes named to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 First Team as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon
The Longhorns honorees featured six men and 10 women. Yaseen Abdalla, Sam Bass, Cruz Gomez, Brendan Hebert, Haftu Knight and Rodger Rivera earned the feat on the men's side while Alyssa Duhart, Aaliya Fazel, Isabel Hebner, Monica Hebner, Grace Johnson, Ava Peeples, Beth Ramos, Alexa Rodriguez, Valery Tobias and Kelsie Vicknair made the team on the women's side.
Duhart was the lone Longhorn to be nominated with a 4.0 in Design.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. This year's first team consisted of 58 men and 76 women for a total of 134 honorees.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
