Former Longhorn and 2017 U.S. Amateur champion places in the top 10 of the 2021 Symetra Tour money list.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Former University of Texas Women's Golf star Sophia Schubert recently earned her LPGA Tour membership for the upcoming 2022 season. The Symetra Tour annually awards LPGA Tour membership to the top players on the Race for the Card money list, and the conclusion of the Symetra Tour Championship earlier this month ushered in the 2021 graduating class.
From 1999-2002, the official qualifying tour of the LPGA handed out three cards. Then from 2003-07, that number increased to five before 10 were distributed starting in 2008. Schubert earned her spot among this year's class by ranking fourth on the Symetra Tour money list with $101,163 in earnings during the 2021 season.
The 2017 U.S. Amateur Champion, Schubert made eagle on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Carolina Golf Classic on October 3. This marked her first professional victory in the penultimate event of the season and secured her spot among the top 10 on the Symetra Tour money list.
During the 2021 season, Schubert posted a total of nine top-10 finishes on her resume. She ranked second on the Symetra Tour in sub-par holes (236) and greens in regulation (80.6-percent through 60 rounds) and was second in birdies (232).
"The win in Greensboro is something that I'll remember for the rest of my life," Schubert said. "I had been close a couple times earlier this season and I knew that I could do it. It was so relieving to get it under my belt and then to clinch my LPGA card in the process was indescribable and a dream come true. My mom is out watching just about every week and to share the accomplishments with her made it even more special. I'm proud of the whole season that I have put together and I couldn't be more excited for the next stage."
