AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas Football senior kicker/punter Cameron Dicker was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Wednesday. The award annually recognizes the best punter in college football. He had a season-long punt of 78 yards against Oklahoma, which was a career long, the eighth-longest in the FBS this season and the fifth-longest punt in program history. Dicker tallied a punt of 77 yards the following week against Oklahoma State, the sixth-longest punt in program history. Of his 35 punts this season, he has had nine downed inside the 20-yard line, six downed inside the 15-yard line and five punts downed inside the opponents' 10-yard line.
Against Oklahoma State, Dicker punted seven times with a gross average of 51.7 yards, the seventh-best single-game average in Texas history. At Iowa State, he registered career highs with 11 punts, 483 yards, six fair catches and four punts downed inside the 20-yard line, including one at the Cyclones' 1-yard line and another at the 2-yard line.
Dicker also handles placekicking and kickoff duties for the Longhorns and is Texas' all-time scoring leader among kickers with 363 career points. This season, he has been successful on 9-of-11 (81.1 percent) attempts and is a perfect 38-for-38 on point after tries, while also booting 54 kickoffs with 36 touchbacks.
The three finalists for the 2021 Ray Guy Award will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 23. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021.
The Ray Guy Award winner is determined by a national voting body of sports writers, college coaches, sports information directors and past Ray Guy Award winners. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times a punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
