The Longhorns had a school-record 33 first-team honorees and four second-team selections.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Football had 37 student-athletes earn spots on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the league office announced Thursday. A school-record 33 Longhorns earned first-team distinctions, with four student-athletes collecting second-team honors. It marks the second consecutive year in which the program has tallied a record number of first-team accolades after 19 Longhorns earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2020.
The Longhorns led the Big 12 with 33 student-athletes earning first-team accolades, more than six teams had in total selections. Texas' 37 overall honorees were second-most in the conference.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
