Gaston notches career-best 19 points to lead UT to its fourth win of the season
AUSTIN, Texas.— Five Longhorns posted double-digit scoring efforts Saturday afternoon in helping No.14/16 Texas roll through CSUN, 83-42, inside the Frank Erwin Center.
UT runs their record to 4-1 on the season with the victory. CSUN drops to 2-3.
Sophomore forward Deyona Gaston paved the way offensively as she led the team with a career-high 19 points and went 9-of-11 from the field. Senior Audrey Warren contributed 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and was a perfect 5-of-5 at the charity stripe.
Joanne Allen-Taylor (12) and Shay Holle (10) were the other Longhorns to finish in double figures. Holle's 10 points were a new career-best for the Austin native.
Warren and Lauren Ebo posted eight rebounds respectively to lead the team on the glass. Rori Harmon dished out a team-high nine assists.
Texas got off to a slow start as they found themselves trailing 7-0 to open the game. They committed 14 turnovers in the first half and led 40-27 at the break.
UT pulled away in the second half outscoring CSUN 43-17 through the final two frames. Texas finished the game shooting 47 percent (31-of-66) from the floor and shot a season-best 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line.
The Longhorns outrebounded the Matadors, 46-27, and held the edge in the turnover battle, 28-21.
CSUN was led offensively by Jordyn Jackson and Rachel Harvey who finished with 11 points respectively. Tess Amundsen led the team on the glass with five rebounds,
Texas returns to action this Wednesday, Dec.1 (7 p.m. CT) as they welcome in Jackson State for another nonconference matchup inside the Frank Erwin Center. The game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
