Lauren Ebo records game-high 14 points to lead the Longhorns to their fifth win of the season
AUSTIN, Texas.— Senior Lauren Ebo tallied a game high and season-best 14 points to help propel No.15/14 Texas to a 78-64 victory over Jackson State Wednesday evening in a nonconference tilt inside the Frank Erwin Center.
The Longhorns improve to 5-1 on the season with the win. JSU slips to 1-3.
Ebo finished the night shooting 6-of-7 from the field and was a perfect 2-of-2 at the free throw line. The Washington D.C. native also led the team on the glass with seven rebounds to go along with a career-high five blocks.
Aliyah Matharu (13 points) and Joanne Allen-Taylor (11) were the other Longhorns to post double digit scoring efforts. Rori Harmon dished out a team-high six assists.
UT traded blows with JSU for much of the first half and took just a six point lead (38-32) into the locker room. The Longhorns outscored the Tigers, 40-32, in the second half to close out the 14-point win.
Texas finished the game shooting 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the floor and 33.2 percent (5-of-15) from long range. They shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the free throw line.
The Longhorns edged the Tigers on the boards, 38-37, and held the advantage in the turnover battle, 17-13.
Jackson State was led offensively by Jariyah Covington who finished with 16 points. Miya Crump (11) and Ameshya Williams were the other Tigers to finish in double figures.
JSU shot 39 percent (23-of-59) from the field and 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the arc in the game.
Texas returns to the floor on Sunday, Dec.5, as they hit the road for another marquee rivalry matchup with No.17/15 Texas A&M in College Station as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tip is slated for 3 p.m. CT and will air nationally on SEC Network.
