Big 12 Conference announces 2022 Football schedule

The Longhorns open the 2022 season at home on Sept. 3 against Louisiana-Monroe and begin conference play on the road on Sept. 24 at Texas Tech.
IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced the 2022 league football schedule on Wednesday. The announcement completes Texas' 2022 slate, with the three non-conference games having been previously announced.
The Longhorns will begin conference play on the road with a trip to Lubbock, Texas for a matchup with the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on Sept. 24. The home portion of the conference schedule gets underway the following week when Texas welcomes West Virginia to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Oct. 1.
Texas will meet Oklahoma in the annual AT&T Red River Showdown on Oct. 8 in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas then host Iowa State on Oct. 15.
Back-to-back road contests follow that, with trips to Oklahoma State (Oct. 22) and Kansas State (Nov. 5) before returning home to face TCU (Nov. 12).
Texas' final road game of the year will be at Kansas on Nov. 19 before closing out the regular season at home on Nov. 26 against Baylor.
Steve Sarkisian's second season as head coach at Texas will begin with a trio of home non-conference games at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, starting on Sept. 3 when the Longhorns host Louisiana-Monroe, the second all-time matchup between the two programs and first since the Warhawks visited Austin in 2009.
The following week, Texas will meet Alabama for the first time since the 2009 National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl. The Longhorns and Crimson Tide have played nine times dating back to 1902 with Texas holding a 7-1-1 series advantage, including a 2-0 mark at home. The traditional college football powers have only met three times on their home fields with the last coming in Austin in 1922. The Longhorns played at Alabama in 1902, and the Crimson Tide traveled to Austin in 1915.
Non-conference action will conclude when Texas hosts UTSA on Sept. 17 in the first-ever clash between the two programs.
The Big 12 Conference Championship Game will be played on Dec. 3, 2022 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
