Former Longhorns secure Tour cards based on finish at LPGA Q-Series.
AUSTIN, Texas — Former University of Texas women's golf standouts Agathe Laisne and Kaitlyn Papp secured LPGA Tour status for the upcoming 2022 season on Sunday. Laisne and Papp both receive LPGA membership in Category 14 on the LPGA priority list, giving them access to approximately 60 percent of the schedule for the season (after majors, invitationals and other no-cut events).
Laisne and Papp are two of the 46 players who finished at 4-under or better after eight rounds of play in the 2021 LPGA Q-Series to earn their Tour cards. A 110-player field started the Q-Series with a 72-hole tournament on Dec. 2-5 in Mobile, Ala. Following those first four rounds, the field was cut to the top 70 players and ties who advanced to a 72-hole tournament on Dec. 9-12 in Dothan, Ala. The cumulative score from the combined 144 holes determined the top 45 players (with ties) to earn LPGA status for the 2022 season.
Laisne finished the Q-Series in a tie for 22nd place with an eight-round score of nine-under-par 565 (71-70-72-71-71-72-69-69). Papp completed the Q-Series tied for 32nd with a cumulative score of six-under-par 568 (70-67-70-70-73-72-72-74).
"This is a monumental day for these two young women, and I could not be more proud," said Texas head coach Ryan Murphy. "This is a culmination of years and years of hard work and dedication. Playing on the biggest stage in the world alongside the very best is exactly where Kaitlyn and Agathe are supposed to be. Again, I'm so proud of these two extraordinary young women and simply grateful for the opportunity to have been around them for the four years they were here at Texas. I look forward to watching and cheering them on over the span of their careers on the LPGA Tour!"
Laisne and Papp are the second and third former Longhorns to secure LPGA Tour status for the upcoming 2022 season. Sophia Schubert earned her LPGA Tour card earlier this fall by ranking fourth on the Symetra Tour money list with $101,163 in earnings during the 2021 season. The top 10 money winners on the Symetra Tour automatically secure LPGA Tour status.
