Soccer adds Penn State transfer Jilly Shimkin to the program

The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native started 15 matches in 2021 as a freshman midfielder/forward
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas head soccer coach Angela Kelly officially announced on Monday the signing of former Penn State midfielder/forward Jilly Shimkin (Freshman/Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side High School/NYSC & Albertson Fury) to join the program in January.
"Jilly is a tremendous addition to our squad," Kelly said. "She is an incredibly dynamic player coming out of the midfield, possesses great vision and has a nose for the goal. Most importantly, she is a competitor. We're so excited for her to join our Texas Longhorns family."

Shimkin preps to head to the Forty Acres coming off a freshman season at Penn State that saw her play in 19 total matches (15 starts) while totaling 13 shots (five on frame). The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native managed three total assists for the Nittany Lions by registering helpers in triumphs against both Maryland (Oct. 8) and Indiana (Oct. 13) as well as on the match-winning goal during a 2-1 victory over Hofstra (Aug. 29).
Originally rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 7 player in the nation according to Top Drawer Soccer's 2021 IMG Academy Top 150 rankings, Shimkin played soccer exclusively for the New York Soccer Club (NYSC) and the Albertson Fury. A three-time United Soccer Coaches All-American (2017, 2018, 2019) and a member of the 2018 Development Academy Best XI, the 5-3 midfielder/forward scored 16 goals and dished 35 assists for 67 points over just 16 matches during the 2020 club campaign. Shimkin was also a three-time New York State Cup and National Futsal Champion as well as a World Futsal Champion. From an international playing standpoint, Shimkin has participated as part of U.S. Women's Youth National Team squads from Under-14 all the way up through Under-20. With the USYNT, she has competed in events in Germany, China, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal and the Netherlands.
