The Longhorns earned their 14th double-digit win of the season on Sunday in Austin.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Women's Basketball team completed its season sweep of Kansas State with a 59-48 win on Sunday at the Frank Erwin Center. The win pushes Texas' record to 15-6 overall and 9-5 in Big 12 play.
Texas struggled in the early goings, but found its footing in the second quarter. Trailing 19-8, the Longhorns jumped on an 8-0 run that cut the deficit to just three points and forced K-State to take a timeout. The teams went back and forth from there for the next couple of minutes before UT held the Wildcats scoreless over the final 3:51 of the frame. In that stretch, the Horns scored nine points to take a 29-25 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, Texas continued its streak of short runs, going on a 7-0 stretch to take a 36-29 advantage. Much of the offense was created by the Texas defense, as the Longhorns forced 21 turnovers and scored 26 points from them. It was the eighth time this season Texas has forced at least 20 turnovers and the 11th instance that UT scored at least 20 points off turnovers. The Longhorns are 10-1 this year when scoring at least 20 points off turnovers.
Charli Collier and Celeste Taylor were Texas' leaders on both ends of the floor throughout the night. Collier, an All-America candidate, scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to post her 15th double-double of the season. That total is tied for the second-most by any Division I player during the current campaign. Meanwhile, Taylor logged 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded four steals. Sunday marked the 28th time the sophomore has scored in double figures and the sixth time this season she has logged at least three steals, with Texas going 6-0 in those outings.
Audrey Warren was another standout Longhorn on Sunday at the Erwin Center, as she scored eight points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Warren's totals came behind a career-high 37 minutes of action in the lineup.
The Longhorns are scheduled to hit the road in their next outing, as they visit Kansas on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT at Allen Fieldhouse. Fans can watch the game on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
