Meet Notes
Split Swimming and Diving Format: Due to health and safety protocols, the 2021 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships will be split into separate events for swimming and diving. The swimming portion will be held Feb. 24-27 (Wednesday-Saturday), while the diving portion is scheduled for March 1-3 (Monday-Wednesday). The team champions will be crowned at the conclusion of the diving competition on Wednesday, March 3.
Television/Streaming Coverage: Big 12 Now/ESPN+ will provide live coverage of the finals portion of all four days of swimming and all three days of diving. Big 12 Now/ESPN+ will broadcast live from 4-5:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 24 and from 6-8 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 25-Saturday, Feb. 27. Big 12 Now/ESPN+ will be live for diving from 6-8 p.m. CT on Monday, March 1-Wednesday, March 3.
Team Rankings: Texas is No. 8 in the latest CSCAA Division I poll (Feb. 11) with 259 points. The Longhorns held the top spot in the national rankings in both the December and January polls. The top 10 in the rankings includes: California (362), Virginia (350), Kentucky (321), Florida (314), Tennessee (306), Georgia (304), Northwestern (288), TEXAS (259), Michigan (247) and Stanford (240).
Storied Program: Texas has claimed a total of nine national titles in its proud history. The Longhorns won AIAW national championships in 1981 and 1982. UT added NCAA team titles in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1991.
Conference Dominance: The Longhorns have captured eight-consecutive Big 12 Conference crowns (2013-20) and 18 overall Big 12 team titles. Texas has won a total of 32 conference championships (14 Southwest Conference, 18 Big 12 Conference).
Head Coach Carol Capitani: Carol Capitani is in her ninth season at the helm of the Texas program. She has led the Longhorns to eight-straight Big 12 Conference crowns (2013-20) and top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship meet in six of her previous seven opportunities. The 2020 NCAA Championship meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Record Setters: Texas has already seen three school records fall during the 2020-21 season entering the postseason. Freshman Anna Elendt set a new mark in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.06) on Dec. 4, topping the previous record of 58.32 by Laura Sogar (Nov. 30, 2012). Freshman Olivia Bray set a new record in the 100-yard butterfly (50.37) on Dec. 4, shattering the previous mark of 51.40 by Kathleen Hersey (Dec. 4, 2008). In addition, the quartet of Julia Cook, Anna Elendt, Olivia Bray and Kelly Pash broke the school record in the 400-yard medley relay (3:26.86) on Dec. 3, besting the previous mark of 3:27.74 set by Tasija Karosas, Madisyn Cox, Lauren Case and Rebecca Millard in 2017.
