Women’s Basketball knocks off Oklahoma, 69-58
02.03.2021 | Women's Basketball
Charli Collier’s second-straight 30-point double-double powered Texas past the Sooners on Wednesday.
NORMAN, Okla. – The Texas Women's Basketball team jumped ahead early and held on late to knock off Oklahoma, 69-58, on Wednesday at the Lloyd Noble Center. The win pushes Texas' record to 13-4 this season, and 7-3 in Big 12 play.
Charli Collier was again the anchor for Texas on the offensive end, scoring 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting and grabbing 15 rebounds. It was Collier's second-straight 30-point effort, her fifth-straight game with at least 15 rebounds and her seventh-straight double-double overall. Collier has tallied 13 double-doubles in total this season, the most of any Division I player. Over her last five games, she has secured 90 total rebounds – an average of 18.0 per game. Collier's' 14 field goals also tied her single-game high that she set earlier this season in a 44-point effort vs. North Texas.
Texas opened Wednesday's contest on an 8-0 run and held a 26-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Collier led a lights-out shooting performance for UT in the first frame, finishing with 12 points on 5-of-6 from the floor. In total, Texas shot 11-for-15 (73.3%) and 2-for-3 (66.7%) from three in the opening 10 minutes.
Dominating the glass was a key factor in the Longhorns fending off a number of Oklahoma runs, as Texas secured 42 rebounds to the Sooners' 19. Collier's 15 rebounds were the leading effort in that group, but Audrey Warren and Celeste Taylor each added five boards of their own.
Warren returned to the floor after a three-game absence Wednesday night, and was a boost for the Longhorns of the bench. She scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting to post her eighth game in double figures this season (10 appearances). Taylor, meanwhile, added 12 points to tally her 11th double-figure effort during the current campaign.
The Longhorns are scheduled to continue conference play this Saturday in Austin when West Virginia comes to town for the second meeting between the schools this season. Tip-off at the Frank Erwin Center is currently slated for 7 p.m. CT on Longhorn Network.
