The Longhorns finish their 2020-21 home slate with a 12-4 record at the Frank Erwin Center.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Women's Basketball team was bested by No. 6 Baylor, 64-57, on senior night at the Frank Erwin Center on Monday. The loss drops Texas to 16-8 overall and 10-7 in Big 12 play this season.
After holding Baylor to just 60 points in a Feb. 14 matchup in Waco, the Longhorns continued to stifle the Lady Bears defensively in the first half of Monday's game. They held Baylor to just 24 points in the first half, Baylor's lowest output in a half this season. Coupled with a 27-point second half on Valentine's Day, UT has held Baylor to its two lowest point totals in a half this season.
Offensively, the Longhorns struggled from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, making just 7-of-25 (28.0%) shots. Texas was successful from behind the arc, however, as Kyra Lambert and Audrey Warren combined to make a trio of 3-pointers that helped keep it to a two-point deficit at halftime.
Baylor opened up its lead in the third quarter, outscoring Texas 26-14 in the frame. The Lady Bears made 10-of-16 (62.5%) shots and went 6-of-8 (75%) from the free-throw line in the 10-minute period, while the Longhorns made just 3-of-16 attempts (18.8%) from the floor.
Charli Collier and Joanne Allen-Taylor were Texas top scorers on the night, scoring 12 and 16 points, respectively. It marked the 54 time Collier has scored in double figures in her career and the 21st time for Allen-Taylor. Collier added eight rebounds and tied her career high with two assists (fifth occurrence) Monday night. Allen-Taylor tacked on six rebounds and two assists to her scoring tally.
The Longhorns are scheduled to conclude the 2020-21 regular season next Sunday when they visit TCU in a rescheduled matchup. Tip-off in Fort Worth is set for 1 p.m. CT on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
