The Longhorns capped the regular season with a road win in Fort Worth on Sunday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Women's Basketball team capped its 2020-21 regular season with a 69-60 road win over TCU on Sunday at the Schollmaier Arena. The win improves Texas to 17-8 overall (11-7 Big 12) entering postseason play.
Four Longhorns scored in double figures, led by Charli Collier and Audrey Warren each racking up 18 points apiece. Collier grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds as well to log her 17th double-double of the season – the second-most by a Division I player during the current campaign. Warren chipped in with a career-high 12 rebounds, two blocks and one steal as she logged her second career double-double, both of which have come in her last four appearances.
The other two double-figure scorers for UT were Joanne Allen-Taylor and Celeste Taylor. Allen-Taylor added 13 points of her own to go with three assists, while Taylor scored 12 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists. It was the 18th time this season that Allen-Taylor has reached double figures, and the 16th for Taylor – the second and third-best tallies by a Longhorn this season, trailing only Charli Collier's 23 games with double-digit points.
Texas was stout defensively throughout most of the game, holding TCU to just 10 points in the opening quarter and making a number of key stops as the Horned Frogs made a run late in the fourth quarter. TCU cut the Longhorn lead to just five points with 3:34 remaining, but clutch free throws by Audrey Warren, Kyra Lambert and Joanne Allen-Taylor helped UT salt the game away.
The Longhorns now turn their attention toward postseason play, beginning with the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Mo. In the upcoming week. The conference tournament begins Thursday, March 11, and concludes with the championship game on Sunday, March 14.
