No. 2 Women’s Tennis sweeps West Virginia, 7-0

The Longhorns win their Big 12 Conference opener and improve to 11-1 in dual-match play.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 2 University of Texas women's tennis team claimed a 7-0 sweep over West Virginia (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) in the Big 12 Conference opener for both schools on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The Longhorns improved to 11-1 in dual-match play this spring with the victory.
Texas claimed a 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point for the 11th time in its first 12 dual matches. The freshman duo of Lulu Sun and Kylie Collins won their sixth-straight match and moved to 8-1 in dual-match doubles play with a 6-1 victory on court 1 against Nadya Maslova and Anastasia Bovolskaia.
The freshman tandem of Charlotte Chavatipon and Peyton Stearns clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court 3 over Hunter Bleser and Amber Fuller. Chavatipon and Stearns improved to 6-1 in dual-match doubles action this spring.
Texas proved to be dominant on the singles courts while posting six straight-set victories. Collins earned a 6-1, 6-1 win on court 3 against Maslova, and senior Fernanda Labraña followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court 4 over Bleser. Labraña moved to 11-2 overall in singles play this year.
No. 125-ranked Chavatipon clinched the dual-match win with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court 2 against Momoko Nagato. Chavatipon improved to 14-1 overall in singles, including an 11-1 mark in dual-match play.
No. 5-ranked senior Anna Turati registered a 6-3, 6-0 victory on court 1 over Bovolskaia, and senior Marta Perez Mur added a 6-2, 6-0 win on court 6 against Nicole Roc. Freshman Malaika Rapolu closed out the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court 5 over Anne-Sophie Courteau. Rapolu moved to 13-2 overall in singles, including a 6-1 mark in dual-match action.
UT returns to action when it hosts No. 42 Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference match on Sunday, March 14. First serve is set for 11 a.m. Central at the Texas Tennis Center.
