Women’s Basketball bounced from Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship

The Longhorns were bested by No. 6/6 Baylor, 66-55, in Saturday’s semifinal matchup.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Texas Women's Basketball team was knocked out of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship by No. 6/6 Baylor, 66-55, in a semifinal matchup on Saturday. The loss drops Texas to 18-9 overall this season with the field for the NCAA Tournament set to be announced Monday night.
Texas struggled in the early goings, but battled back to hang tough with the Lady Bears throughout the contest. After trailing by double digits, the Longhorns rallied to get the deficit back to just one point in the second quarter before entering the break down 37-30.
The Longhorns and Lady Bears traded buckets throughout the second half, with Texas clawing away at the deficit before Baylor buried clutch free throws late to salt away the game.
Texas' top contributors on the offensive end were Celeste Taylor and Joanne Allen-Taylor, with the duo combining to score 40 points. Taylor scored 22 of those, adding two steals and two rebounds to her tally. Allen-Taylor added two assists, one steal and one rebound to her scoring tally.
The Longhorns will now await to hear their NCAA Tournament fate on Monday night. The 2021 NCAA D1 women's college basketball tournament selection show will air at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
