Pineda wins Women’s platform on final day of NCAA Zone D Diving Championship

Pineda, Boyle and Skilken earn NCAA qualifying spots on Women’s platform; Windle, Duperre, Harness and McCourt claim spots on Men’s 1-meter.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Texas junior Paola Pineda captured the platform title to highlight Saturday's third and final day of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The Longhorns qualified three women on the platform and four men on the 1-meter springboard for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
Over the three-day NCAA Zone D meet, the Texas men had four divers qualify in 12 events and the UT women had four divers qualify in nine events. The combined eight NCAA Championship qualifiers in diving are the highest number from any school in the nation.
On the women's side, Pineda, sophomore Janie Boyle and sophomore Jordan Skilken each placed among the top nine finishers to secure their spots on platform at the NCAA Championships. Pineda won the competition with a score of 680.30, while Boyle placed second (640.60) and Skilken took fourth (542.40).
Pineda held a 22-point lead after the preliminary rounds, boosted by her score of 87.45 on her fourth dive of the prelims, a back 3 ½ somersault tuck (207c). She then pulled away by recording scores of 72.00 on three of her five dives in the finals. Boyle's effort was highlighted by a score of 82.50 on her fourth dive in the finals, a forward 3 ½ somersault pike (107b).
The Texas men saw four divers place among the top nine finishers on the 1-meter springboard to secure their spots at the NCAA Championships. Senior Jordan Windle, who won the 3-meter and platform events on Thursday and Friday, finished second with a total of 822.80 points, trailing LSU's Juan Hernandez (840.25). Freshman Noah Duperre claimed third (728.10), sophomore Andrew Harness took fourth (678.20) and freshman Brendan McCourt finished eighth (624.70).
The UT women head to the 2021 NCAA Championships on Wednesday, March 17 through Saturday, March 20 in Greensboro, N.C. The Longhorn men will compete in the 2021 NCAA Championships on Wednesday, March 24 through Saturday, March 27 in Greensboro.
