No. 24 Women’s Golf builds lead at Mountain View Collegiate

The Longhorns extended their lead on Saturday heading into the final round out in Tucson.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 24 Texas Women's golf team extended its lead to seven through two rounds of the Mountain View Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club on Saturday. The Longhorns shot a 2-under 286 in Saturday's second round, the best round by a team and one of only three under par overall.
Individually, all five Longhorns in the lineup this week are in the top 15 through 36 holes. Kaitlyn Papp, a three-time All-American, is the low Longhorn thus far, sitting tied for third at 6-under par. Papp has shot a 3-under 69 in each of her first two trips around The Preserve Golf Club. On Saturday, she made five birdies to only two bogies during her round.
Behind Papp, Ashley Park is tied for ninth at 3-under par. Park opened her week with a 6-under 66 on Monday, the best round of her collegiate career, and battled to shoot a 3-over 75 after a tough front nine on Saturday. Agathe Laisne and Sophie Guo are both currently tied for 11th at 2-under par. Guo matched Papp with a 3-under 69 to post the round of the day by a Longhorn. Their scores were tied for the third-best round by any competitor in the field on Saturday.
Sara Kouskova, who shot a 1-over 73, is tied for 15th through two rounds. Kouskova was clean through her first 11 holes on Saturday, recording a birdie on the sixth and par for the rest until a tough stretch of three-straight bogies from Nos. 12-14. She responded with three-straight pars and a birdie on No. 18 to cap her round.
The final round of the Mountain View Collegiate is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with the Longhorns in hot pursuit of their second-straight team title. Last week, UT was victorious by 25 strokes at the Wildcat Invitational, also hosted in Tucson.
