The Details
For the 25th time under Kelly's guidance, the Longhorns grabbed an early lead during the first 10 minutes of the match.
This time it was Grosso tickling the twine just 4:24 in as the Vancouver, British Columbia, native corralled a Berg blocked shot, danced through some TXST defenders on the left edge of the 18-yard box and slotted a shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 lead.
Echols started Texas' second goal by controlling a long ball and playing it to Missimo. The rookie midfielder looked to penetrate on the dribble, but cut it back to Berg who finished on a right-footed shot at 28:31 to make it 2-0.
It took just 1:55 for the Longhorns advantage to grow to 3-0 as McFarland located the back of the net at 30:26. The play started with Grosso directing a short corner to Missimo. She spun quickly on the dribble and crossed a ball towards the top of the six-yard box. McFarland was waiting for the feed in plenty of space to volley home a nine-yard effort.
Looking for more in the second stanza, the Burnt Orange & White got a golden opportunity at 51:04 as Berg was taken down in the box. Missimo was called upon to take the ensuing penalty and drove home her first career goal from the spot to finalize the scoring in a 4-0 victory.
