The Longhorns dominated the two-day tournament, winning by 25 shots in Arizona.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Texas Women's Golf team won its first team title of the 2020-21 season on Tuesday, capturing the crown at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with a 25-shot victory. Texas' 28-under 836 this week is third-lowest 54-hole score on UT record.
The Longhorns capped the two-day tournament with a 14-under 274 – tied for the second best 18-hole score to par in school history. That, coupled with a 13-under 275 in the opening round, helped make this a historic week for the Horns. UT's 13-under score in the opening round is tied for the fifth-best 18-hole score to par on school record. It is the first time in school history Texas has posted multiple rounds at 13-under or better in the same tournament.
Sara Kouskova led the Longhorns this week, earning medalist honors for the first time in her career. She topped the leaderboard at 10-under par, shooting 68-70-68 across three rounds in Tucson. On Tuesday, Kouskova made five birdies and just one bogey to cap her impressive performance. Kouskova was one of four Longhorns to post a top-seven individual finish this week.
Agathe Laisne was the next highest Longhorn on the leaderboard, tying for second with a late charge up the standings on Tuesday. Laisne, a French international, carded a 6-under 66 to post the best round of her collegiate career. She made eight birdies in Tuesday's round to finish the tournament at 7-under par.
In addition, Ashley Park and Kaitlyn Papp finished in fifth and tied for seventh, respectively, at five and four-under par this week. Park saved her best for last after shooting an even-par 144 across two rounds of play Monday, posting a 5-under 67 to record her first collegiate top-five finish. Papp, meanwhile, opened her week in Tucson with a 6-under 66, the second-best round of her collegiate career, and followed it up with back-to-back 1-over 73's in her first start of the spring.
The Longhorns will return to action in Tucson, Ariz. at the Mountain View Collegiate, which is being held at The Preserve Golf Club from March 19-21. Live results will be available throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
