Neugebauer leads decathlon at Roadrunner Invitational

No. 7 Track and Field’s Leo Neugebauer holds a 41-point lead through five events in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 7 Texas Track and Field multi-events standout Leo Neugebauer scored 3,996 points in the first five events of the decathlon at the Roadrunner Invitational on Thursday. Halfway through the decathlon, Neugebauer leads the field by 41 points.
The German international opened the competition by clocking an 11.08 en route to finishing third and scoring 843 points in the 100-meter dash. He followed it up with wins in the long jump and shot put competitions, first winning the long jump with a best mark of 7.16 meters (852 points) followed by a 14.03-meter throw (730 points) in the shot put.
Neugebauer, a two-time All-American in the heptathlon indoors, posted second and third-place finishes in the high jump and 400-meter race to close out the opening day of competition. He cleared the bar in the high jump at 1.98m/6-6 to score 785 points, followed by a 50.63 in the quarter-mile to add another 786 points.
The second day of the decathlon at the Roadrunner Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT on Friday. UT is also slated to compete in the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas beginning at 12 p.m. CT. Friday's action in Waco will consist of field events throughout the afternoon before distance racing serves as the nightcap on the meet's opening day.
