No. 2 Women’s Tennis sweeps Houston, 4-0

The Longhorns improve to 18-1 and complete the regular season home schedule with a 14-0 mark.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 2 University of Texas women's tennis team posted a 4-0 victory against Houston (12-5) in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. The contest marked the final collegiate regular-season home match for a quartet of UT seniors, Fernanda Labraña, Marta Perez Mur, Tijana Spasojevic and Anna Turati, who were recognized following the win.
The Longhorns won their 11th consecutive dual match and improved to 18-1 on the season, including a perfect 14-0 mark in home contests. Texas has now recorded 13 sweeps in its first 18 wins this year. UT improved to 85-11 (.885) in dual-match singles play and 38-6 (.864) in dual-match doubles competition this season.
Texas took a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point for the 18th time in its first 19 dual matches. Playing together for just the second time this year, the duo of Perez Mur and freshman Kylie Collins broke a 1-1 tie and won five consecutive games to post a 6-1 victory on court 3 over Azul Pedemonti and Blanca Cortijo Parreno.
The No. 56-ranked freshman tandem of Charlotte Chavatipon and Peyton Stearns clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court 2 against Sophie Gerits and Phonexay Chitdara. Chavatipon and Stearns jumped out to leads of 3-1 and 5-2 before closing out the match and improving to 10-1 in dual-match doubles action.
The Longhorns closed out the dual-match victory with a trio of straight-set wins in singles. Freshman Malaika Rapolu fell behind 2-0 in her opening set but responded by winning 12 of the next 13 games to earn a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court 5 over Pedemonti. Rapolu moved to 18-2 overall in singles, including an 11-1 mark in dual-match play.
Labraña followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win on court 4 against Laura Slisane to improve to 17-2 overall in singles, including a 10-1 mark in dual-match play. No. 18 Turati closed out the action with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court 1 over Mimi Kendall-Woseley to win her 12th consecutive match and move to 15-2 in singles dual-match action.
The remaining three singles matches featuring No. 81 Chavatipon on court 2, No. 56 Collins on court 3 and Perez Mur on court 6 were stopped once Turati's contest went final.
UT returns to action when it travels to face Kansas in a Big 12 Conference match on Friday, April 9. First serve is set for 5 p.m. Central at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence.
