Turati and Stearns begin play in 64-player singles draw on Sunday, while Collins/Sun open in 32-team doubles bracket on Monday.
ORLANDO, Fla. — University of Texas women's tennis senior Anna Turati and freshman Peyton Stearns will begin action in the 64-player draw at the NCAA Singles Championships on Sunday, May 23. The freshman duo of Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun open play in the 32-team bracket at the NCAA Doubles Championships on Monday, May 24. The NCAA released the draws for the individual championships on Saturday, with opponents and start times for first-round matches.
Turati, No. 35 in the latest ITA national singles rankings (May 5), will face No. 10 Isabella Pfennig of Miami (Fla.) at 3:30 p.m. Central in Sunday's first round. Turati enters today's NCAA Championship Match with a 19-3 singles record during the 2021 spring season. This will mark her third NCAA singles appearance, as she advanced to the Round of 32 in both 2018 and 2019.
No. 37 in the latest ITA national singles rankings, Stearns will meet No. 25 Tatiana Makarova of Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. Central in Sunday's first round. Stearns enters today's NCAA Championship Match with a 16-7 overall singles record this year, including a 12-4 mark in dual-match play on court 1.
Collins and Sun, No. 19 in the latest ITA national doubles rankings (May 5), will face No. 25 Cameron Corse and Page Freeman of Notre Dame in Monday's first round (time TBA). Collins and Sun enter today's NCAA Championship Match with a 21-4 overall doubles record this season, including a 9-3 mark against nationally-ranked opponents.
The NCAA singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. All matches will be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
