Baseball’s Antico and Quintanilla selected on Day Two of MLB Draft

Mike Antico was selected in the eighth round and Cole Quintanilla was taken in the ninth.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball had two players selected on day two of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday, with outfielder Mike Antico selected in the eighth round and right-handed pitcher Cole Quintanilla taken in the ninth round.
Antico, who was selected with the 241st overall pick, had a tremendous season after coming to Texas as a graduate transfer. In his one season with the Longhorns, he batted .273 and led the team with 69 runs scored and 41 stolen bases.
He finished the year as the NCAA base on balls leader with 63 walks and second nationally with his 41 stolen bases. Antico belted 10 home runs to become Texas' first player with both double digit homers and 40 stolen bases in a season. He also added 16 doubles and two triples and finished with 47 RBI.
Quintanilla, the 263rd overall pick, was a key piece in the Texas bullpen this season and was outstanding during the postseason. He finished the season with a 1.35 ERA and a 5-1 record in 40 innings pitched. He struck out 42 batters and held opponents to just a .165 batting average against. During the postseason, Quintanilla allowed just one run in 8 1/3 innings pitched and had nine strikeouts.
In his three-year career, Quintanilla compiled a 3.18 ERA with a 7-2 record and five saves. He struck out 97 batters in 82 innings pitched and posted a career .218 batting average against.
The 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft will conclude on Tuesday with Rounds 11-20.
