TOKYO –Texas Track & Field All-American Stacey Ann Williams earned a bronze medal on Saturday as the Team Jamaica 4x400m relay placed third in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at Olympic Stadium.
Williams did not compete in the final but will receive a bronze medal along with her teammates after running in Jamaica's preliminary heat on Thursday.
In the final, Jamaica grabbed the bronze after starting the final lap in fourth and overtaking Canada in the last 100m, finishing in 3:21.24. The United States led from the start, taking gold with a time of 3:16.85, while Poland set a national record of 3:20.53 to win silver.
Williams ran the final leg of Jamaica's preliminary, helping the squad to a second-place finish in the round with a then season-best time of 3:21.95.
With Williams' bronze, a Longhorn has medaled in the women's 4x400m relay in each of the last six Olympic Games. She is the sixth Longhorn to win an Olympic medal in the women's 4x400m relay, joining three-time gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross, two-time medalist Sandi Richards, Chrisann Gordon, Courtney Okolo and Moushaumi Robinson.
Williams is the third Longhorn to win a track & field medal in Tokyo. Texas legend Ryan Crouser won Olympic gold in a record-setting performance in the shot put to defend his title, while fellow Texas great and current volunteer coach won silver in the 4x100m relay.
