DeYona Gaston records a team-high 14 points to help propel the Longhorns to a statement victory in Ames
AMES, Iowa — DeYona Gaston tallied a team-high 14 points Wednesday evening to help propel No. 15/14 Texas to an emphatic 66-48 road victory over No. 7/7 Iowa State inside the Cyclones' Hilton Coliseum.
With the win, the Longhorns run their record to 13-3 overall on the season with a 3-2 mark in Big 12 competition. ISU drops to 16-2, 5-1.
Gaston finished the game 6-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 2-of-2 at the free throw line in the win. She also matched a career-high with five blocks and brought down five rebounds on the night.
Aaliyah Moore, Aliyah Matharu and Rori Harmon finished with eight points, respectively. Matharu led the way on the glass with a season-high seven rebounds and also finished with a team-high five assists.
Shay Holle added seven points in 13 minutes off of the bench and was a perfect 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
Texas established their inside presence early and controlled the paint throughout as they outscored Iowa State, 26-12.
The Longhorns outrebounded the Cyclones 36-38 and won the turnover battle 15-10. Texas scored 15 points off of Iowa State turnovers.
Texas finished the game shooting 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field with shot a season-best 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.
The Cyclones were led offensively by Emily Ryan who finished with 19 points. Lexi Donarski added 14 points.
Ryan, Beatriz Jordao and Morgan Kane each collected four rebounds to lead the team on the glass.
Texas is scheduled to return to the floor on Saturday, Jan. 19, as they travel to Forth Worth to take on in-state rival TCU. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. CT and will air nationally on ESPN+.
