Track and Field Open Rankings at No. 1/No. 2

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field program opened the first week of United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings at No. 1 on the men's side and No. 2 on the women's side.
Texas' men have posted eight marks in the top-10 nationally in their respective events, including three in the 800m alone sparked by Crayton Carrozza at No. 3 (1:48.40), Yusuf Bizimana at No. 5 (1:48.75) and Cole Lindhorst at No. 7 (1:48.86). The men also have the top-ranked DMR in the NCAA posted by Lindhorst, Willington Wright, Bizimana and Carrozza at 9:37.58.
Tripp Piperi also ranks second in the country with his shot put mark at 20.99m (68-10.50), while the 4x400 relay of Jonathan Jones, Matt Nortje, Wright and Brian Herron have the second-fastest time in the NCAA with a time of 3:05.21.
On the women's side, the Longhorns have posted 12 top-10 marks, one short of Arkansas at No. 1. The middle distance squad posted three top-10 times at the Red Raider Invite with Kennedy Simon leading the NCAA with a time of 52.15, Rhasidat Adeleke at No. 5 (52.61) and Stacey-Ann Williams at No. 6 (52.62).
The three along with Milan Young also registered the third-fastest 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:31.26. Julien Alfred opened her season with an NCAA-leading time of 7.10 seconds, winning the event over the weekend. Alfred's time matches her program-record time she set in 2020.
Brooke Jaworski and Valery Tobias broke into the top five in the 800m after top performances in Lubbock. Jaworski's time of 2:05.77 sits at No. 4, while Tobias' came in just behind her at 2:05.78 at No. 5 in the NCAA.
The Longhorns return to competition on Jan. 28-29 for the Texas Tech Open and Multis meet.
