Aliyah Matharu records a team-high 18 points as the Longhorns capture their fourth-straight win
AUSTIN, Texas — Junior Aliyah Matharu tallied a team-high 18 points Wednesday evening in helping propel No. 9/10 Texas to an impressive 66-48 victory over No. 25/RV Kansas State inside the Frank Erwin Center.
With the win, the Longhorns run their win streak to four games and improve to 15-3 overall with a 5-2 mark in Big 12 Conference action. The Wildcats drop to 15-5, 5-3.
Matharu finished the game shooting 6-of-14 from the field with a 4-of-9 clip from behind the arc. She also brought down five rebounds and dished out three assists in the win.
Senior Audrey Warren also had an impressive night on the hardwood as she racked up 16 points on a sparkling 8-of-9 performance from the floor to go along with three rebounds and three steals.
Joanne Allen-Taylor finished with 12 points and Lauren Ebo led the team on the glass with nine boards. Rori Harmon dished out a team-high 6 assists.
Drawing the difficult defensive assignment of guarding Kansas State forward Ayoka Lee, who posted an NCAA DI record 61 points in her last outing, Ebo held up well as Lee was limited to 20 points on the night. Ebo also finished with three blocks in the win.
Once again, the Longhorns played suffocating team defense throughout the contest holding the Wildcats to a 34.7 percent (17-of-49) mark from the field and a 16.7 percent (1-of-6) mark from three-point range.
UT forced 19 KSU turnovers in the game, which led to 18 points, and committed 15 turnovers on the other end.
Texas outrebounded Kansas State, 33-32 and held a 26-20 advantage in points in the paint.
Texas finished the game shooting 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field with a 33.3 percent (6-of-18) mark from long distance.
Lee paced the Wildcats offense with her 20 points and also led the team on the glass with 11 rebounds. Serena Sundell finished with 13 points.
Texas is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29, as they travel to Norman to take on No.18/21 Oklahoma. Tip is slated for 2:00 p.m. CT and will air nationally on Bally Sports Oklahoma.
