NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 9/10 Texas women's basketball team suffered a 65-63 Big 12 Conference defeat at No. 18/21 Oklahoma Saturday afternoon inside the Sooners' Lloyd Noble Center.
With the loss, the Longhorns snap four-game win streak and slip to 15-4 overall with a 5-3 mark in league competition. The Sooners move to 18-3, 7-2.
Both teams traded blows throughout as the game featured 19 lead changes and 12 ties. Eight points was the largest lead of the game, held by Oklahoma at the 5:29 mark of the second quarter.
Trailing 36-33 at halftime, the Longhorns came out strong in the third quarter outscoring the Sooners, 18-12, and took a 51-48 lead into the final frame.
Down 61-60 with 1:49 left in the game senior Joanne Allen-Taylor drew a foul from behind the arc and hit all three tries to put the Longhorns up by two points, but five unanswered points by the Sooners in the final minute sealed the Oklahoma win.
Freshman point guard Rori Harmon led the charge for the Longhorns as she registered her second double-double of the season with a team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. She also added three assists, three steals and went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
Freshman Aaliyah Moore and junior Aliyah Matharu tallied 10 points and two blocked shots, respectively. DeYona Gaston led the team with three blocks.
Texas finished the game shooting 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the field with a 29.4 percent (5-of-17) mark from three-point range.
The Longhorns committed a season-high 24 turnovers in the loss while forcing 27 turnovers on the other end. Rebounds were even at 37 apiece.
Madi Williams paced Oklahoma offensively finishing with 23 points. Taylor Robertson tallied 17 points and led the team with 10 rebounds.
Texas is back in action next Friday, Feb. 4 (7 p.m. CT) as they travel to Waco to take on No. 11/14 Baylor before hosting the Bears inside the Erwin Center on Sunday, Feb. 6 (3 p.m. CT). Both games are set to air nationally on ESPN 2.
