Despite a majority of the day’s schedule being cancelled due to weather, the duo of Richard Ciamarra and Cleeve Harper picked up a top-25 victory.
Coral Gables, Fla. – No. 3 Texas Men's Tennis posted two doubles wins on day two of the Miami Spring Invite on Saturday, despite a majority of the day's schedule being cancelled due to weather. The Longhorns finished a total of four doubles and two singles matches against opponents from No. 9 Georgia and No. 11 UCF.
The day was highlighted by the No. 13 pair of senior Richard Ciamarra and sophomore Cleeve Harper topping No. 22 Trey Hildebrand and Bogdan Pavel of UCF, 6-2, while junior Nevin Arimilli and sophomore Evin McDonald downed Mathis Debru and Miguel Perez Peña of Georgia, 6-4.
The two other doubles matches were close contests as junior Chih Chi Huang and sophomore Micah Braswell had two match points against Erik Grevelius and Britton Johnston of Georgia, but came up just short in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3). Sophomore Siem Woldeab and freshman Pierre-Yves Bailly fell to Alan Rubio and Kento Yamada of UCF, 6-4, in the other.
With the weather, all seven of the Longhorns afternoon singles matches were halted in the first set. Sophomore Evin McDonald had begun play in one of those as a substitute for Woldeab, and also played in one of the two morning singles matches, but dropped that to Pavel, 7-5, 6-0, while sophomore Eshan Talluri was defeated by Cooper White of UCF, 6-3, 6-1.
None of the unfinished singles matches will be completed and the tournament will maintain its Sunday schedule.
