The Longhorns made a clean sweep of their two weekend home matches with a victory over Arkansas on Sunday.
Austin – No. 3 Texas Men's Tennis swept No. 36 Arkansas, 4-0, on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center. The match was the Longhorns' fourth-straight win and completed a pair of sweeps in their weekend homestand, including defeating Tennessee on Friday.
Texas put together a solid doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to capture the point, while also leading at No. 3 when play stopped. The Longhorns then followed with singles victories by freshman No. 90 Abel Forger at No. 4, sophomore Oliver Ojakaar at No. 3, and freshman Lucas Marionneau at No. 6 for the clinch.
During doubles, Forger and his partner freshman Kalin Ivanovski were first off the court by a matter of seconds with a 6-3 win over the No. 64 pair of Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba at No. 1. The No. 23 duo of Marionneau and senior Sebastian Gorzny then clinched the point right behind that with a decisive 6-1 victory over Brendan Boland and Dmitry Kopilevich at No. 2. That left the match at No. 3 unfinished where the No. 19 pair of Ojakaar and sophomore Sebastian Eriksson had a 4-3 lead over Eric Padgham and Lukas Palovic when play stopped.
Forger quickly put together an efficient 6-1, 6-1 win to start off singles over Arsene Pougault at No. 4. Not long after that, there was another almost simultaneous finish as Ojakaar got home first with his 6-4, 6-1 win over Gabriel Elicha Navas at No. 3. Moments later, Marionneau provided the clinch with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Boland at No. 6.
That left three matches unfinished with No. 19 Ivanovski just two games away from a possible top-20 win over No. 18 Vrba, 7-6 (4), 4-1, at No. 1. No. 43 Eriksson had also come out on top of a close first set and held a 7-5, 3-1 lead over Palovic at No. 2. Meanwhile senior Jonah Braswell came up just short in a first-set tiebreaker to Kopilevich, 7-6 (5), at No. 5, and they had just begun their second set when play halted.
The Longhorns (18-6, 9-2 SEC) next go back on the road for a pair of matches next week, first at No. 27 Ole Miss on Thursday, April 2, at 1 p.m. CT, followed by at No. 23 Auburn on Saturday, April 4, at 12 p.m. CT.
