AUSTIN, Texas – Another standout performance has been rewarded as Texas soccer sophomore midfielder Lexi Missimo has been named the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 28.
For Missimo, this marks her first career selection as the league's offensive player of the week and her fourth career Big 12 weekly accolade after earning three Big 12 Freshman of the Week nods during the 2021 campaign. The Longhorns have now reaped an impressive eight league player of the week honors this season.
The Southlake, Texas, native helped power the Longhorns offense to an outright Big 12 regular-season title-clinching 3-1 victory over Oklahoma on Thursday by playing a direct role in two of UT's three goals with two key assists. The helpers marked Missimo's 11th and 12th of the year to move her into a tie for fifth all-time for assists in a single-season in program history.
Missimo got her night started during the 14th minute by lofting a perfectly-weighted pass over the backline and right into the charging path of Trinity Byars who opened the scoring on a finish into the left corner from 16 yards out. With Texas holding a 2-1 lead at 60:07, Missimo delivered a feed into the middle of the 18 off a corner kick that was finished via header from seven yards out by EmJ Cox to effectively seal the 3-1 victory.
Now, it's on to the postseason as top-seeded Texas (13-1-4, 7-0-2 Big 12 Conference) preps to open the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas, against eighth-seeded Kansas State on Sun., Oct. 30, at 11:30 a.m. CT. The match will be web streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
