The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native scored a 12th minute goal during a 3-1 NCAA win over Texas A&M
AUSTIN, Texas – A tone-setting, 12th minute goal, that helped lead No. 16 Texas soccer (15-2-4) to a 3-1 NCAA First Round win over old rival Texas A&M, has been rewarded as sophomore midfielder Jilly Shimkin was selected to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week for Nov. 15.
For Shimkin, this marks her second 2022 selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National of the Week following a previous nod back on Sept. 27.
The All-Big 12 Conference Second Team choice got the Longhorns off to a strong start in last Friday's NCAA First Round triumph over the Aggies. During the 12th minute, the Rockville Centre, N.Y., product stepped up facing a free kick from 19 yards out and promptly bent a right-footed shot over the wall and into the left edge of the twine to grant Texas an early 1-0 lead. The goal marked her seventh of the year, tying sophomore defender EmJ Cox for second on the squad in the category.
Next up for Shimkin and her Texas teammates is a trip to Durham, N.C., for NCAA Second Round action against No. 8 Duke. The Longhorns will face off against the Blue Devils on Fri., Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
