Morris paces five Longhorns in double-figure scoring with a career-high 25 points.
AUSTIN — Freshman guard Arterio Morris posted a career-high 25 points to lead No. 7/7 Texas (10-1) to a 100-72 victory over Louisiana (10-2) on Wednesday evening at Moody Center. The Longhorns topped the century mark in scoring for the first time since a 105-59 home win against Northwestern State on Nov. 10, 2017.
Associate Head Coach Rodney Terry served as acting head coach for the third straight contest for the Longhorns. UT played before a sellout crowd (10,763) at Moody Center for the seventh-straight game this season.
Morris converted 9-of-11 field goals, including 5-of-7 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 free throws in 18 minutes. He was one of five Longhorns to reach double figures in scoring.
Super senior Timmy Allen tallied 17 points while hitting 6-of-8 field goals and 5-of-5 free throws, six boards, three assists and two blocks in 25 minutes. Graduate Marcus Carr also posted 17 points while converting 5-of-9 field goals, including 3-of-3 from three-point range, and 4-of-4 free throws in 24 minutes. Sophomore Tyrese Hunter recorded 10 points and four assists in 31 minutes, and super senior Christian Bishop added 10 points (5-6 FG), a game-high eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 20 minutes.
The Longhorns set team season highs in scoring, field goal percentage (.581), three-point field goal percentage (.545) and free throw percentage (.941). Texas posted 23 assists on 36 field goals made, and five different UT players had at least three assists on the night.
Texas took control of the contest from the opening tip as it raced out to a 14-4 advantage following an Allen jumper with 16:08 remaining. The Ragin' Cajuns scored six straight points to trim the margin to 14-10 after a Jordan Brown three-point play at the 15:04 mark. UT answered with a 9-2 spurt over the next two-and-a-half minutes to build a 23-12 cushion following a Sir'Jabari Rice three-pointer with 12:32 left.
Louisiana cut the deficit to 43-33 after a Terence Lewis II layup at the 3:33 mark. The Longhorns closed the half with a 14-2 run to take a 57-35 advantage into the locker room.
Texas opened the second half with an 11-3 spurt to increase its margin to 30 points (68-38) following a Morris three-pointer with 15:58 remaining. The Ragin' Cajuns narrowed the gap to 25 points (80-55) after a Themus Fulks free throw at the 10:52 mark, but that was as close as Louisiana would get the rest of the way.
UT built the lead to as much as 38 points (98-60) following an Allen layup with 4:03 left. Morris had 19 of his 25 points in the second half, as he converted 7-of-9 field goals, including 3-of-5 threes, in the final 20 minutes.
Texas will break for the holidays and returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 27 when it hosts Texas A&M-Commerce. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
