No. 11 Women’s Golf places fifth at Lamkin Invitational

Sophomore Bentley Cotton ties for sixth in the individual standings at three-over-par 219.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — The No. 11 Texas Women's Golf team registered a 19-over-par 307 on Tuesday to finish in fifth place overall in the Lamkin Invitational at The Farms Golf Club. The Longhorns registered a 54-hole total of 29-over-par 893 (297-289-307).
Sophomore Bentley Cotton closed with a five-over-par 77 in the final round to tie for sixth place in the individual standings at three-over-par 219 (72-70-77).
Cotton began her day registering bogeys in two out of her first four holes, but quickly responded by going one-under-par through her next 10 holes. Senior Sara Kouskova posted the low round of the day for the Longhorns with a final round of three-over-par 75, which included an 11-hole stretch (2-12) of bogey free golf.
The 14-team field at the Lamkin Invitational featured 10 teams that are ranked in the latest Division 1 WGCA Coaches Poll that was released on Nov. 19, 2021, including No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 Oregon, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 San Jose State, No. 14 UCLA, No. 15 Arizona, No. 20 USC, No. 21 Arizona State and No. 23 Ole Miss.
No. 13 San Jose State tallied a five-over-par 293 on Tuesday to earn the team victory with a 54-hole score of nine-over-par 873 (289-291-293). No. 1 Stanford placed second at 12-over-par 876 (280-297-299), and No. 21 Arizona State took third at 20-over-par 884 (289-292-303).
Stanford's Rachel Heck claimed individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of five-under-par 211 (70-73-68). Arizona State's Ashley Menne placed second at two-under-par 214 (68-74-72), while San Jose State's Natasha Andrea Oon took third at one-under-par 215 (69-72-74).
This marked the first tournament of the spring season for Texas. The Longhorns return to the course on Feb. 28-March 2 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Lineup
- Sophomore Bentley Cotton posted a five-over-par 77 on the final round to tie for sixth place at three-over-par 219 (72-70-77). Cotton registered one birdie on the day (No. 13, par-4).
- Senior Sara Kouskova fired a three-over-par 75 on Tuesday to finish in 26th place in the individual standings at 10-over-par 226 (81-71-75). Kouskova also tallied one birdie (No. 10, par-4) during the final round.
- Freshman Bohyun Park also carded a five-over-par 77 in the final round to tie for 33rd place at 12-over-par 228 (78-73-77). Park birdied her first hole of the day (No. 3, par-5).
- Junior Sophie Guo carded a six-over-par 78 on Tuesday to tie for 38th place at 13-over-par 228 (69-82-78). Guo recorded two birdies (No. 6, par-4; No. 18, par-5) on the day.
- Sophomore Ashleigh Park tallied a seven-over-par 79 in the final round to tie for 44th at 16-over-par 232 (78-75-79) in her season debut. Park posted two birdies during Tuesday's final round (No. 12, par-5; No. 18, par-5). As a team, the Longhorns shot one-under-par on the 18th hole during the final round.
