No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving builds lead on second day of Big 12 Championships

Texas won all four events on Thursday highlighted by senior Daniel Krueger’s fourth-straight title in the 50 free.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving swept the second day of competition at the 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, winning four events on Saturday at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. The Longhorns have won six of the first seven events in the championship.
Texas opened the day with a victory in the 500 free by sophomore Coby Carrozza, who posted a time of 4:13.31 to win the event for the second year in a row and also establish a new pool record.
Sophomore Carson Foster posted a meet and pool record in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:41.32, the second straight year he has won the event. The win continued a UT tradition as a Longhorn has won the event at all 26 Big 12 Conference Championships.
Not to be outdone, senior Daniel Krueger won his fourth-consecutive conference title in the 50 free, touching the wall in a pool record 19.17 to join UT great Jimmy Feigen as the only swimmers to win the title four times.
Texas closed out the night with a pool record of 3:03.86 in the 400 medley relay by freshman Anthony Grimm, junior Caspar Corbeau, senior Alvin Jiang and Krueger.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Carrozza is the first Longhorn to win consecutive Big 12 titles in the 500 free since Jackson Cox (2009-12), while Foster is the first to win back-to-back 200 IM championships since Will Lincon (2015-17).
- The Longhorns swept the top-four spots in the 500 free as Carrozza was followed by freshman Luke Hobson (4:14.25), sophomore David Johnston (4:14.99) and junior Peter Larson (4:15.43).
- Texas has won 25 consecutive conference titles in the 500 free.
- UT also went 1-4 in the 200 IM, with junior Jake Foster (1:42.84) and freshman Tim Connery (1:43.16) placing second and third, respectively, and Corbeau (1:43.72) taking fourth.
- Texas swept the top-three spots in the 50 free, with senior Cameron Auchinachie (19.21) winning silver and senior Drew Kibler (19.48) claiming the bronze.
