DeYona Gaston records a game-high 16 points as the Longhorns post sixth-straight victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — DeYona Gaston poured in a game-high 16 points and Rori Harmon matched a season-best 11 assists Saturday evening in helping propel No. 11/12 Texas to a 77-42 rout over TCU inside the Frank Erwin Center.
With the win, the Longhorns run their win streak to six games and improve to 21-6 overall on the season with a 11-5 mark in Big 12 Conference competition and sweep the regular season series with the Horned Frogs. TCU slips to 6-19, 2-14 with the loss.
Texas dominated on both ends of the floor from the opening tip as they outscored the Horned Frogs 48-26 in the first half and 29-16 in the second half to secure the victory.
The Longhorns' 35-point win marked their highest margin of victory in league competition while their 77 points marked their second-highest offensive output in Big 12 play.
Gaston finished the game shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor, which was tied for the third-best single game field goal percentage mark in school history. Kelsey Lang (Dec. 20, 2016) owns the best mark in program history at a perfect 10-of-10 mark from the field. Gaston left the game due to injury in the third quarter and did not return.
Joanne Allen-Taylor finished with 12 points and Aliyah Matharu added nine to go along with a team-high six steals on the defensive end.
Lauren Ebo led the way on the glass as she brought down a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with eight points on the offensively.
Texas forced a season-best 26 turnovers in the game, which led to 38 points. Texas committed just 11 turnovers on the other end.
Rebounds were even at 33 apiece, but the Longhorns controlled the paint with a 38-18 advantage in points scored.
The Longhorns finished the game shooting 50 percent (34-of-68) from the field and 25 percent (3-of-12) from three-point range.
TCU finished the game shooting 34.1 percent (15-of-44) from the field and 25 percent (2-of-8) from behind the arc.
The Horned Frogs were led offensively by Okaka Adika and Lauren Heard who finished with 11 points, respectively. Heard also led the team on the glass with six rebounds
The Longhorns return to action next Wednesday, March 2, as they travel to Lawrence to square off with Kansas. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. CT and will air nationally on ESPN+
