Jones and Piperi Post World-Lead Marks in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – Jonathan Jones and Tripp Piperi recorded world-leading marks at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic over the weekend.
Jones ran the world-leading 600m dash time with a time of 1:15.12, while Piperi's heave of 21.45m (70-4.50) was the only mark surpassing 21 meters.
Jones' time ranks as the No. 1 time in the world this season, the No. 3 time in NCAA history and No. 7 time in indoor world history. Davicia Patterson won the women's 600m event at 1:29.51 in her season-opener. Jalil Brewer finished second behind Piperi with a throw of 19.78m (64-10.75), ranking as the No. 6 mark in the NCAA this year.
Willington Wright, Marcellus Moore and Charles Brockman competed in the 200m dash, adding times of 20.89, 21.48 and 22.12, respectively. The women set blazing times led by Kynnedy Flannel's 22.80, which ranks as the No. 3 time in the NCAA this season. Rhasidat Adeleke finished just behind at 22.85, followed by Kennedy Simon (22.93), Julien Alfred (23.01), Stacey Ann Williams (23.14), Kevona Davis (23.17) and Milan Young (23.73).
Young also added a second-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds. Brockman also reached the men's 60m hurdles final and finished fourth with a time of 7.99 seconds.
Ackelia Smith and Darja Sopova made their Texas track and field debuts in the women's long jump with jumps of 6.34m (20-9.75) and 6.15m (20-2.25) to go 1 and 2 in the event. On the men's side, Stacy Brown won the event with his jump of 7.83m (25-8.25) that ranks as the No. 8 mark in the NCAA this season. He added a second-place finish in the triple jump at 16.80m (55-1.5).
The track remained electric for the Longhorns with Adeleke finishing third with a personal-best time of 7.21 seconds in the 60m dash. Kevona Davis matched her personal-best time of 7.25 seconds to finish just behind in fourth.
Patterson registered a third-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 53.91, while Brooke Jaworski finished sixth with her time of 54.87. Jaworski later added an 800m event win with her time of 2:06.43. Jones recorded a second-place finish in the men's 400m with a time of 46.10 seconds, the No. 5 time in the NCAA this season.
The women's 4x400 relay of Williams, Flannel, Alfred and Simon added a winning time of 3:30.69 to add the fifth-fastest time in the country this season.
Texas returns to Clemson on Feb. 11-12 for the Tiger Paw Invite and travel to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.
