No. 8 Women’s Tennis sweeps TCU, 7-0

The Longhorns improve to 2-0 in Big 12 Conference play and 11-3 overall this year.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 8 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (11-3, 2-0 Big 12) claimed a 7-0 sweep against TCU (8-7, 0-2 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center. With the victory, the Longhorns extended their win streak in Big 12 Conference regular-season dual matches to 33, dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Texas took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Sophomore Charlotte Chavatipon and freshman Vivian Ovrootsky posted a 6-1 victory on court 3 against Alisa Soloveva and Jade Otway. After dropping the opening game, Chavatipon and Ovrootsky rattled off six straight games to close out their win and improve to 4-1 in dual-match doubles action this spring.
Moments after Chavatipon and Ovrootsky wrapped their victory, the duo of sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court 2 over Aleksa Cveticanin and Stevie Kennedy. Tied at 1-1, Stearns and Zamarripa claimed five-consecutive games to finish out the match and move to 3-0 in dual-match doubles play.
No. 7 Stearns opened singles action with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory on court 1 against Soloveva. Stearns jumped out to a 5-1 lead in her opening set. Soloveva won the following game to pull to within 5-2, but Stearns ran off the next seven-straight games to improve to 13-1 overall in singles this season, including a 10-1 mark in dual-match play.
Chavatipon followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court 4 over Kennedy to increase UT's advantage to 3-0. Chavatipon raced out to a 4-1 advantage in her opening set. Kennedy won the next game to trim the margin to 4-2, but Chavatipon rattled off wins in eight-straight games to finish out her victory.
Allura Zamarripa clinched the overall dual-match victory with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court 6 against Addy Guevara. After posting a shutout in her opening set, Zamarripa jumped out to a 5-1 cushion in the second set. Guevara rallied to win three straight games to pull to within 5-4, but Zamarripa broke Guevara in the following game to close out the win and move to 2-0 in dual-match singles play this season.
Playing out the remaining singles matches, sophomore No. 38 Kylie Collins gave the Longhorns a 5-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court 2 over Mercedes Aristegui. Tied at 2-2 in the opening set, Collins won four of the next five games to earn a 6-3 first-set win. She then grabbed leads of 3-0 and 4-1 in the second set before cruising to the finish line and improved to 18-7 overall in singles this year, including a 6-4 mark in dual-match action.
Freshman No. 106 Sabina Zeynalova added a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win on court 3 against Otway. After posting a shutout in her opening set, a back-and-forth second set went to a tiebreaker. In the breaker, Zeynalova jumped out to a 5-1 lead en route to a 7-3 win and moved to a perfect 11-0 in singles dual-match play this spring.
Sophomore No. 95 Malaika Rapolu completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory on court 5 over Isabel Pascual. In the first-set tiebreaker, Rapolu won the first five points and cruised to a 7-1 win. She raced out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, before Pascual won back-to-back games to close to within 4-3. Rapolu broke Pascual and held serve to finish out the win and moved to 12-6 overall in singles this year, including a 5-2 mark in dual-match action.
The Longhorns return to the courts when they travel to face West Virginia on Friday, March 18. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Central (2 p.m. Eastern) in Morgantown, W. Va.
